Title:A Comparison of Two Proto-Samaritan Texts from Qumran: 4QpaleoExodm and 4QNumb
Pages:264-89
Journal:Dead Sea Discoveries
Volume:5
Issue:3
Abstract:A study of 4QpaleoExodm and 4QNumb suggests there was a time when the traditions behind the major texts shared a common origin. The Palestinian tradition behind the Qumran materials, Samaritan Pentateuch, and LXX split off from the tradition behind the MT. Before the major interpolations of the Proto-Samaritan tradition were added, the LXX split off and began to develop its own unique secondary readings. The traditions behind the Samaritan Pentateuch and the Proto-Samaritan texts at Qumran split apart, and both traditions made their own additional interpolations. Title:Translating the Scriptures: Reflections on Ancient Precedent
Pages:1-17
Journal:Australian Biblical Review
Volume:41
Abstract:The enormous task of translating the Hebrew Scriptures or the NT was often attempted. These initial translations into various languages were often systematically revised, and sometimes became the basis for secondary translating activity. Referring to the Greek translation of the OT, the LXX, discusses aspects of this tradition of translating and revising, anticipating that such reflections will throw light on the religious thought which gave rise to it and the settings in which it was carried out. Title:Biblia Hebraica - et Septuaginta
Pages:256-66
Journal:Dansk Teologisk Tidsskrift
Volume:58
Issue:4
Abstract:Reviews and discusses M. Muller's Kirkens forste Bibel: Hebraica sive Graeca veritas? (1994). This book contains an excellent rendering of the history of the Septuagint, beginning with the Aristeas letter and ending with Augustine. Discusses whether the LXX, and not the MT, ought to be the text translated in an authorized Christian version of the OT. The Greek text should play as important a part in biblical theology as does the Hebrew. Reacts negatively to the first mentioned problem, but positively to the other.
